🌧️ Drought Update for Wales! 🌧️

Wales has been grappling with drought since May, but September’s rain has brought a glimmer of hope! While parts of Wales are beginning to recover thanks to significant rainfall, experts warn it will take “many months to recover” fully. Some regions saw a phenomenal 200%+ more rain than usual, helping many rivers bounce back to normal. However, others are still struggling to catch up. Rivers may seem okay for now, but groundwater levels are still really low and need more rain to fully replenish.

Dr Rhian Thomas from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) highlighted that this summer was one of the driest periods in nearly 50 years. While the rain has brought temporary relief and even some localised flooding, the environment is still under pressure. NRW warns that sustained rainfall throughout autumn is critical for normalising river flows and boosting groundwater reserves before spring.

If you’re worried about drought or spot any environmental issues, don’t hesitate to report them to the NRW hotline at 03000 65 3000. Let’s keep an eye on nature and hope Wales continues to recover! 🌿✨
