The second phase of crucial work at this notorious site near Cwmbwrla Roundabout has hit a major snag and could now face a potential four-month delay. 😩 Contractors have been working hard since the old Cwmfelin Social Club was demolished to access a collapsed culvert buried deep beneath. This culvert has been the culprit behind the roundabout’s repeated flooding woes.
Ward councillor Peter Black recently updated us, sharing that although the first blockage has been cleared, most water is still finding its way into an old tramway and then back into the culvert. Yikes! If the tramway collapses too, it could mean even more flooding. Thus, pumps will stay in place until flooding risks are fully resolved. 💧
Excavators are now gearing up to tackle the second blockage. But, before they dive in, there’s a bit of red tape. They need the green light from Network Rail, which could take up to four months, since it’s a bit more intricate than just digging down. 🤔
Meanwhile, the council is keeping a close eye on the forecast and monitoring how things unfold around Cwmbwrla Roundabout during heavy rains. 🏷️
Local businesses and residents are holding their breath as they recall past flooding incidents. Just last November, Ribwar Wahab’s barber shop ended up with two feet of water, causing significant damage. Residents like the Davies family had to be rescued by boat! 🚤
