đ¨ Major retailers take action amid shocking animal welfare claims! đ¨

Popular UK supermarkets, Asda and Tesco, have taken a strong stand by suspending supplies from Somerby Top Farm in Lincolnshire. This decision follows disturbing allegations of animal cruelty brought to light by a covert investigation conducted by the Animal Justice Project.

The investigation revealed deeply unsettling practices at the farm, including workers reportedly hitting pigs and ignoring visible injuries. Whatâs even more alarming is that some of the worst abuses allegedly occurred shortly after an audit by the Red Tractor food chain assurance scheme.
Both Tesco and Asda have expressed their shock at the footage and are committed to ensuring high welfare standards in their supply chains. Tesco is actively working with suppliers to launch a thorough investigation, while Asda has also suspended supply after becoming aware of these claims.
Red Tractor has suspended the farmâs certification immediately, emphasising the seriousness of this breach. They’ve referred the case to the governmentâs animal welfare regulator and are closely reviewing both historical and recent footage to ensure accountability.
Cranswick, the company running the farm, has faced similar allegations before, causing their shares to drop significantly. The previous scandal at Northmoor Farm, another Cranswick operation, showcased horrific practices such as piglet thumpingâa banned method of killing.
Red Tractor has assured the public that they are taking serious steps to monitor and improve animal welfare standards through unannounced checks and independent reviews.
Stay tuned for more updates as this investigation unfolds. Let’s continue to hold our food suppliers accountable for ethical practices! đđ #AnimalWelfare #EthicalFarming #UKNews #Asda #Tesco
