**Convicted: Child Rapist Gets 15-Year Sentence**
Mohammed Raihan, a 22-year-old from Swansea, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a series of crimes including the rape and sexual assault of a vulnerable schoolgirl. The terrifying ordeal left the young victim feeling “numb, angry, and traumatised,” robbing her of her trust in men.
In a court hearing, it was revealed that Raihan had not only committed these heinous acts in the summer of 2024 but also tried to convince the girl to withdraw her allegations by threatening to kill her. Despite his intimidation, the brave young victim stood firm and testified against him, ultimately securing his conviction. Raihan’s arrest also uncovered indecent images of children on his phone, adding to his lengthy sentence.
Judge Catherine Richards denounced Raihan’s manipulative behaviour, noting that, while he appeared charming on the outside, his actions behind closed doors painted a dark picture. Sentenced for two counts of rape, sexual assault, witness intimidation, and possessing indecent images, Raihan will serve at least two-thirds of his prison time before being released on licence. He also faces lifelong registration as a sex offender and a 20-year restraining order to keep away from his victim.
Raihan’s defence attempted to portray a different image, citing his status as a third-year university student and expressing hope that he might be able to rehabilitate himself post-sentence. However, for the victim, the trauma remains significant, as she described facing anxiety around men and feeling like a different person since the ordeal. Though difficult, her courage in standing up to Raihan has not only brought about justice in her case but also safeguarded others from his harmful influence.
