“Marine Animal Freed After Two-Year Brexit Hiatus, Set to Return to Natural Habitat”

🐢✨ Meet Barnacle Bill, the turtle hero of the day! After two long years stuck due to Brexit complications, this little warrior is finally making her way back home to the wild. Rescued by the GSPCA after a storm swept her ashore in Guernsey, Barnacle Bill was in pretty rough shape—covered in barnacles and weighing less than a kilo.

Thanks to a dedicated team at GSPCA and Sea Life Brighton, Bill’s gone from under 1kg to a hefty, ready-to-thrive 13kg! Despite the paperwork hurdles that delayed her journey, she’s now on her way to the sunny Azores, where she can swim free and live her best life.🌊

Fun Fact: Barnacle Bill was only the second loggerhead turtle ever recorded in Guernsey! These turtles often find their way here thanks to human-led pollution, climate change, and unfriendly weather—leading them into colder waters they can’t survive.

🔍 Steve Byrne from GSPCA advises: “If you find turtles stranded, always contact a rescue team. Never return them to the sea; it could be a death sentence in our cold waters.”
