On 7th May 2026, Wales heads to the polls to elect representatives for the Senedd, the Welsh Parliament. This election is significant as it shapes who will make key decisions on health, education, and the environment in Wales. Unlike in past elections, where UK Parliament had a say, these matters are decided right here in Cardiff Bay by our 60 Senedd members.

What’s new this time around? There are exciting changes for this seventh devolved election!
– The Senedd is expanding from 60 to 96 members.

– If you’re 16 and over, you’ve got the power to vote! Choose a political party or an independent candidate.
– Wales will now be divided into 16 constituencies, each electing six members.
– All candidates must reside in Wales.

But here’s a twist—gone are the days of casting two votes. This time, you only get one. Simple and straightforward!

Polling stations open at 7am and close at 10pm on election day, with votes counted on Friday, 8th May. A majority party may not be guaranteed due to these changes, making this election one to watch. Plus, with the possibility of Reform UK and the Green Party making their mark, Welsh politics could see some new faces and fresh ideas!
