Exciting news for Pembrokeshire’s farming community! One of the region’s largest dairy farms, Langdon Mill Farm, has just received the green light for a significant expansion. Planning permission is now in place for a massive new heifer accommodation building, making this already impressive operation even bigger. Located near Jeffreyston, Kilgetty, the farm boasts a whopping 2,000 milking cows!

The new 160m-long structure will provide housing for heifers aged 7 to 22 months, complete with a modern slurry separation facility and spacious yards. Already known for its high productivity, Langdon Mill Farm produces impressive yields with cows milked three times a day in a state-of-the-art rotary parlour.

This expansion follows a decade of investment in infrastructure for cattle accommodation, milking facilities, and more. The farm has also been busy building calf and weaned calf accommodation, almost ready to open its doors. With this new development, the farm continues to rear its own replacements, boosting genetic quality and reducing the threat of bovine tuberculosis.
Langdon Mill doesn’t just focus on innovation and productivity; it’s also a valuable local employer, providing jobs for 21 full-time and three part-time workers. As milk prices fluctuate, this expansion supports the local economy and boosts farming sustainability.
Councillors have been quick to recognise the importance of this project. They see it as a logical progression following previous approvals and a step toward enhancing biodiversity and ensuring economic resilience. One councillor summed it up perfectly, saying it’s about “safety in numbers.”
It’s heartening to see unanimous support for such initiatives, reinforcing Pembrokeshire’s commitment to supporting its farming industry. Here’s to more exciting developments in our vibrant rural community! πΎπ
