Ever imagined a building so vast that Disneyland could easily fit inside? Welcome to the Boeing factory in Everett, Washington! This colossal construction is the world’s largest building by volume, spreading over a mind-boggling 472 million cubic feet. That’s about 98 acres of mind-blowing engineering, easily surpassing the original Disneyland’s 85-acre size.

Since its grand opening in 1967, Boeing’s mega-factory has seen over 5,000 wide-bodied aircraft take shape, like the iconic 747, which needed a space two-and-a-half times larger than other passenger planes of its era. This astonishing place even created its own mini-weather system; in the early days, clouds would form under its 90ft roof! Modern air conditioning keeps it in check now.

The factory is a town in itself, with 36,000 employees working across various roles – from aircraft construction to childcare and fire services, all on this gargantuan site. The factory hums along three shifts a day, producing the 767, 777, and excitingly, the 777X.
Boeing’s factory tours have become a must-visit experience, attracting nearly 240,000 people last year. You can stroll through the main production floor and explore the underground network of passages where over 1,000 bicycles aid employees in zipping around this industrial behemoth.
With giant aircraft rolling off the lines, completed with up to 454 litres of paint each, it’s a meticulous yet fascinating process. Can’t get enough of this engineering marvel? Dive into its sheer scale and the innovation that continues to push aviation boundaries. 🛫🏭✨
