In 2023, heavy rains caused a landslide that led to the evacuation of 41 residents. It turns out that construction material was stored unsafely due to “commercial expediency,” according to the judge. Skyline Enterprises was deemed “very careless” and hit with a fine of 271,000 NZD (around £116,000). The company has expressed sincere apologies and has already conducted extensive remediation work.

The company stresses its dedication to environmental responsibilities, saying: “Skyline takes its responsibility to its neighbours, the community, and the environment very seriously.” Preparatory works at Kilvey Hill are expected to kick off soon, focusing on tree clearance and safety enhancements, with major construction slated for the first half of 2026.
