Cardiff came to a standstill as thousands gathered to pay their respects to the legendary Billy Cassidy. Known as “the legend” in the travelling community, Billy passed away at the age of 54, leaving behind a legacy that touched hearts far and wide.
His grand funeral ceremony included a procession with five elegant Rolls Royces, an American Cadillac—a nod to his last wishes—and even a dazzling flypast by a stunt plane. The beloved father-of-five, granddad to seven, and a sibling to 14 was laid to rest at Ely’s Western Cemetery after a touching service at St Alban-on-the-Moors church in Splott.
Billy was more than just a family man; he was the life and soul of any gathering. A relative fondly recounted his love for singing and dancing. In fact, he famously clinched the title at ‘Travellers Got Talent’ last year with his remarkable voice.
The funeral drew people from all over, including some well-known personalities like Paddy Doherty, Joe Cordina, and Joe Calzaghe, all of whom came to honour a man who was deeply cherished across Cardiff and the UK.
His relative shared that Billy never touched alcohol or drugs, yet he had the remarkable ability to light up any room with his vibrant presence. In his own words, “We’ve lost our legend.”
