🚧 Big Changes Coming to Merthyr Town Centre! 🚧

Say goodbye to some of Merthyr Tydfil’s old town centre structures and hello to a vibrant new space, as long-delayed demolition work finally nears completion this year! The transformation aims to create a brilliant new connection between the railway and bus stations, making it easier for everyone to get around the heart of our town.

The council’s grand vision, known as the Merthyr Interchange Link, will see landmarks like the Peacocks, the British Red Cross, and Monique’s buildings replaced with a stunning public area between Masonic Street and High Street. Cue plans for a chic, Victorian-style corner plot where Monique’s once stood!
While the project has faced setbacks due to the delicate nature of the demolition, excitement builds with funding discussions in progress. The Welsh Government recognises the scheme’s significance, especially after the new bus station’s debut. Soon, the area will flourish with improved paths and stunning public spaces, all designed to elevate your experience in town.
Can’t wait for the changes? Keep an eye out for updates as we head towards the end of the year when the major works wrap up. Ready to see Merthyr’s refreshed connections and welcoming ambiance? We know we are! 💫
