High-pressure systems played a big part in keeping things sunny and warm, making both spring and summer the hottest ever. Spring 2025 was also the driest it’s been in over a century! From mid-June to mid-August, we faced four heatwaves, with temperatures reaching a sizzling 35.8°C on July 1 in Kent.

As you might imagine, this led to some serious water issues. Many regions declared droughts, reservoir levels plummeted, and hosepipe bans were put in place. By year’s end, the country logged a record-breaking 1,648.5 hours of sunshine, outshining the previous high set in 2003.

Dr Mark McCarthy from the Met Office highlighted that these rising temperatures align with human-induced climate change trends. So, while 2025 may be a heat record-holder, it’s part of a worrying pattern of warming. 🌡️‼️

Rain began to return later in the year, but it wasn’t enough to lift some areas, like parts of Sussex, out of drought conditions. Helen Wakeham from the Environment Agency warned that such extremes—both droughts and floods—might become more common. So, a call to action on climate change feels more urgent than ever!

Stay cool and climate-conscious, folks! 🌍💧
