Middle-aged Man Masquerades as Teen Online in Disturbing Attempt to Lure Young Girls

Disturbing news from Dinas Powys: a 42-year-old man, Gerald Thomas, who posed as an 18-year-old online, has been jailed for attempting to groom young girls. Using decoy accounts posing as teenagers, Thomas engaged in explicit conversations and sent inappropriate images, believing he was talking to underage girls. His repulsive actions continued even after his initial arrest, as he sought out another decoy for similarly inappropriate exchanges.

The case was heard at Cardiff Crown Court, where it was revealed that Thomas engaged in graphic discussions and even attempted to video call his unsuspecting targets. Appallingly, he tried to entice one with money transfers, asking for her bank details to deposit a nominal sum. Despite claiming to have learning difficulties, Thomas was found guilty of attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. With previous convictions noted, the court sentenced him to two years and ten months in prison. He will be subject to sex offender notification requirements for life.
