What was supposed to be a fun family day at Coney Beach amusement park turned into a scary experience for Bridgend mum Megan Cavanagh and her kids. What began as a cheerful afternoon at the seaside park took a frightful turn when a metal fence unexpectedly collapsed and struck Megan.

The young mum had taken her daughter and son to enjoy the rides on Wednesday. After briefly stepping away to calm her autistic daughter, Megan returned to find herself in the middle of a nightmare. While chatting near the Wacky Worm ride, there was a sudden loud crash. “I was just minding my own business when it happened. There was a massive bang, and children started screaming,” Megan recounted.
A nearby fence separating the ride from spectators toppled over, hitting her back. Megan bravely pushed a friend’s pram to safety, despite the chaos. She later found out that her young nephew had been on the ride, which reportedly derailed.

Parents reacted quickly, scrambling to get their children to safety. Megan expressed relief that she had taken her daughter away earlier, avoiding a potentially more dangerous situation.
Although advised to go to the hospital, Megan decided to return home, dealing with aches and lacking childcare options. South Wales Police confirmed that 13 children and one adult suffered minor injuries, with some needing hospital treatment.
Reflecting on the experience, Megan said: “None of this is what you’d expect from what is supposed to be a family trip out.” The incident is a reminder of how life can change in an instant and the importance of staying vigilant, even at family-friendly venues. Stay safe, everyone!
