Imagine the shock when Elisha Parr found a Christian pamphlet hidden inside a Halloween cup she bought for her six-year-old at Lidl! Popping into the Downham Market store with her son, Sam, she thought she was just picking up a fun ghost cup for £2.99. But when her partner, Christian, opened it to wash, he found something unexpected—an anonymous leaflet warning kids against idolatry.

Elisha, from Thetford, was outraged at what she calls ‘indoctrination through underhand tactics’, intended for impressionable young minds. The pamphlet, filled with Bible verses, suggested fleeing from idols and seeking Jesus, something Elisha deemed inappropriate for children.

Sharing her story, Elisha said, “I’m all for personal beliefs, but pushing them onto children is not okay. Seeing it inside a toy was upsetting. Luckily, Sam missed it, but my eldest was baffled.”

She quickly informed Lidl about her unsettling discovery. Responding to her concern, Lidl checked other items and confirmed all similar leaflets were removed. As an apology, Elisha received a £10 voucher from the supermarket.
