A major road in Pembrokeshire was closed for several hours over the weekend following a serious collision involving a motorbike and a car, which resulted in one person being airlifted to hospital. The incident unfolded on Saturday, 17th May, shortly after 11am on the B4313, near the well-known Gelli Bridge area.
Emergency services, including the police, ambulance, and an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene in response to reports of a significant crash between two vehicles. The vehicles involved were identified as a white Peugeot saloon and an orange KTN 690 motorcycle. According to authorities, the circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation.
Upon arrival, paramedics provided immediate medical attention at the scene. One individual, whose identity has not been disclosed at this stage, was transported by air ambulance to hospital. The extent of their injuries is not yet clear, but the prompt response from emergency services is believed to have been crucial.
For the safety of the public and to allow for a thorough investigation, officers from Dyfed-Powys Police closed the B4313 in both directions. The closure also enabled the safe recovery of both damaged vehicles. The road remained inaccessible to motorists and local traffic until approximately 2:30pm, causing some delays and disruptions for those travelling in the area on Saturday afternoon.
CCTV and dashcam footage from passing motorists is now being sought by the police as they continue to piece together the cause of the crash. Dyfed-Powys Police issued an appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or may have recorded footage around the time of the collision to come forward. They have requested that individuals quote reference ‘121 of May 17’ when providing information.
Local residents and drivers accustomed to using the B4313 have expressed concern following the crash, noting that while the route is typically considered safe, accidents do occur, often resulting in significant disruption. The stretch near Gelli Bridge is a familiar one to regular commuters, and news of the road closure quickly spread through community networks and social media over the weekend.
A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police reiterated the importance of road safety and encouraged anyone with relevant details to assist the investigation. “Our officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and would be grateful for any information or footage,” the spokesperson said.
Occasionally, incidents such as these prompt renewed discussion about traffic safety measures in rural parts of Wales. Community leaders and campaigners frequently call for greater vigilance and further road safety education to help prevent future accidents, especially where motorbikes and cars are both present.
At the time of writing, the condition of the person flown to hospital remains unknown, and updates from health authorities are awaited. The investigation by Dyfed-Powys Police is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as enquiries continue.
Anyone who may be able to assist is urged to contact Dyfed-Powys Police online, via their non-emergency number, or by visiting a local police station, ensuring they refer to the incident’s specific reference number.
