π¨ Cardiff Drivers, Beware! π¨ A cunning scam is circling around our city and it’s already cost millions across the UK! Fraudsters are sticking fake QR codes on Cardiff Council parking machines. If you scan these, they can swipe your personal and financial details! π±

Cardiff Council is taking action and has a critical reminder for all: they NEVER use QR codes on their machines. If you spot one, steer clear and stick to paying through the MiPermit app or website.

This scam, known as “quishing,” has hit other places in Wales too, with reports surfacing from Llandudno and Colwyn Bay. Just this March, Bridgend sounded the alarm for locals.
π’ Advice to stay safe:
– QR codes in pubs or restaurants are usually safe.
– Be sceptical about codes in open public areas like car parks.
– If you see a QR code that seems suspicious or out of place, don’t scan it!
– If you receive an email with a QR code, think twice before scanning.
– Always use your phoneβs pre-installed QR scanner instead of downloading other apps.
