๐ถ๐ผ Allergies in Children: Time for Change? ๐ถ๐ผ

Hey parents, ever wonder why childhood allergies seem to be on the rise? Asthma, hay fever, food allergies โ they’re becoming all too common. But could a tweak in advice make a difference? ๐ค
Labour MP Becky Gittins is calling for a fresh look at NHS guidelines on weaning to help protect our little ones. Current advice suggests introducing solids at six months. But studies have shown that introducing potential allergens between four and six months could slash allergy risks. The research is compelling: feeding babies peanuts early on could reduce peanut allergies by 71%! ๐ฅ

Gittins, currently pregnant and managing her own severe food allergies, believes the healthcare system needs to do more. “We need to tackle allergies outside the specialist space and empower primary care practitioners,” she says. Sheโs introducing the Babies and Infants (Allergy Guidance) Bill to highlight this issue and push for tailored advice.

Right now, advice can be mixed, leaving many parents puzzled about the best move. Tanya Ednan-Laperouse from The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation insists on clear, science-backed guidance to give parents confidence in weaning their infants.
With at least 6% of UK adults living with food allergies, it’s not just kids who are affected but entire families. Simplifying and improving advice could be a game changer for many.
