A heartbreaking update from Greece: Michele Bourda, a 59-year-old British woman, has been found dead after vanishing from a sunbed while her husband Chris slept nearby. The couple, from Glasgow, were enjoying a holiday in the Greek city of Kavala when Michele disappeared on August 1. Her belongings were left behind, sparking a frantic search.

After weeks of worry, police have now discovered a body believed to be Michele’s on a small island, Fidonisi, about 40km from the beach where she was last seen. Chris, 66, shared that they are “99% sure” it’s her, identified partly by the clothing she wore that day.

Michele had her ups and downs with mental health but seemed fine before vanishing. The couple spent a lovely day on the beach, swimming and planning a nap. Little did Chris know he’d wake up to unimaginable heartache.
Despite Michele’s past struggles, she was in good spirits on holiday, indulging in crepes and enjoying the waves. Sadly, Michele had battled with depression in the past and even had similar disappearances, but this outcome is truly devastating.
Chris has voiced his disappointment with how the Greek authorities handled the case. He felt the harbour police’s late response and initial scepticism delayed the search. He had to plead for help, feeling ridiculed and ignored. On the day Michele disappeared, Chris recalls a lack of police presence, echoing sentiments from other guests at their hotel.
This tragic story is a reminder of the importance of prompt action in missing person cases and the impact of mental health challenges. We send our deepest condolences to Michele’s family and friends during this difficult time. 💔
