Attention holiday-goers! If you’re dreaming of a European getaway, heads up! Starting 12 October, the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) means Brits travelling to the Schengen area will have some new steps to follow. Whether it’s the sun-kissed beaches of Portugal or the charming streets of Paris, you’ll need to register your biometric details, like fingerprints and a photo, upon arrival.

As the EES rolls out, be ready to set up a digital record during your first visit to the region. Special booths at airports and ports will capture your info, making future entries a bit smoother. Just remember, your initial entry process might take a tad longer, so pack some patience as you head through the border control.

For those entering through iconic spots like Port of Dover, Eurotunnel at Folkestone, or St Pancras International, this biometric data will be collected before you even leave the UK. And to make future trips hassle-free, your digital EES record will stay active for three years!
Planning on soaking up Portugal’s stunning vistas soon? Ensure your passport aligns with Schengen area rules—issued within the last decade and valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure. Check those dates because a slip-up could mean a trip to the passport office instead!
This change affects trips to 29 Schengen countries, including popular spots like Spain, Italy, and Greece. So, double-check your documents and get ready for a new adventure with a touch of tech at the border! Bon voyage! 🌍✈️
