Olympic diving star Tom Daley is a hit on The Celebrity Traitors, but recent personal challenges have been making waves beyond the TV screen. Tom and his husband, Hollywood writer Dustin Lance Black, left the UK post-controversy, seeking an apology from the government.
It all started after a heated incident at Soho’s Freedom nightclub back in August 2022. Lance had a run-in with BBC presenter Teddy Edwardes, culminating in accusations and a court case. CCTV captured the chaos, involving their partners, Tom and Amber Gill, who tried to calm things down. Lance was reportedly attacked from behind by Edwardes, leading to an injury. Although she received a police caution, police were called over her claims of assault. Yet, in 2023, the court dismissed the case, highlighting inconsistencies in Edwardes’ story.
Lance felt this ordeal cost him dearly, emotionally and financially, as he reportedly lost £600,000. The judge noted Edwardes’ contradictory testimonies, and Lance’s lawyers proved there was no substantial evidence against him.
Feeling wronged, the couple relocated to the US, away from what they described as an unjust experience. Reflecting on social media, Tom shared his frustration, saying the tumultuous legal battle shook his trust in the justice system. He praised his husband’s fortitude during these taxing times, expressing gratitude for the love and support they received.
Despite it all, Tom’s light shines bright on The Celebrity Traitors, and he remains a devoted dad to sons Robbie and Phoenix.
