Local governors and residents are up in arms over proposals to discontinue its status as a Church in Wales school, citing concerns about its future as simply a community school. The issues with land ownership have also stirred the pot, leading many to call the plans “fundamentally flawed.”
The review highlights a decrease in pupil numbers, but as one of the governors, Gary Fieldhouse, passionately stated, removing the church affiliation would be a “profound mistake.” He says the school’s deep ties with the church create a “sense of belonging” that’s at risk of being lost. 🏫✝️
Reverend John Cecil also weighed in, arguing that the land is held in trust as a Church school, which complicates the suggested changes. He warns these moves could essentially mean starting from scratch without premises.
