Football star Aaron Ramsey finds himself in the centre of a storm, with one Mexican journalist calling him a “coward” following his departure from UNAM Pumas. Ramsey, the former Arsenal midfielder, recently ended his contract with the Mexican side after making just six appearances. The catalyst? The mysterious disappearance of his beloved beagle, Halo.

Halo went missing on October 9 from a dog shelter in Guanajuato. Despite offering a significant reward, the search has come up empty, leaving Ramsey and his family distraught. He’s since returned to the UK, stating that the loss has been devastating. However, not everyone is understanding.

During an on-air outburst, journalist José Manuel Escobedo on the Mexican platform Medio Tiempo criticised Ramsey’s decision, arguing that losing a pet is not a valid reason to quit. “This man loses his dog and says: ‘I’m leaving the country and not coming back to work’. What message does this send to young kids facing their own challenges?” Escobedo remarked.
While Pumas haven’t formally announced Ramsey’s exit, coach Efraín Juárez hinted that official news might be on the horizon. Meanwhile, Ramsey’s future on the pitch remains uncertain, although he still hopes to play for Wales in the upcoming World Cup despite recent injuries.
