A terrifying moment unfolded outside a primary school in Rainham when a cockapoo named Reggie attacked a three-year-old girl, leaving her seriously injured. The owner, Tracie Inkpen, fled the scene and initially denied that her dog was responsible, but CCTV captured the shocking incident, leaving her no choice but to admit Reggie’s involvement.

Little Bunnie Skinley had to undergo surgery after the dog sank its teeth into her arm as she walked with her dad and siblings. Witnesses rushed to help as her father held her skin together, while the owner made a hasty retreat without offering help or leaving her details.

Police tracked down Inkpen, who eventually admitted in court this August to her pet causing the injury. Reggie, seized by authorities, had been assessed to be a bit ‘nippy,’ though he is no longer considered dangerous after some behavioural training during his time in kennels. The court spared him but imposed strict conditions.
Inkpen has been sentenced to 160 hours of community service, along with fines totalling over £3,600 for compensation and costs. Her legal representation explained her panicked response after the incident, emphasising her remorse and previous good character.
As for Reggie, he’ll be returning home but must now be muzzled and walked on a short lead by an adult. The incident highlights the importance of responsible dog ownership and ensuring pets are always kept under control. Let’s hope for Bunnie’s speedy recovery and that lessons have been learned all around. Stay safe, folks! 🐶❤️
