Pensioner Convicted of Sexual Assault While Receiving Therapy
Anthony Kirk, a 68-year-old man, attended a massage parlour in Barry seeking treatment for Parkinson’s disease. However, instead of receiving therapy for his medical condition, he sexually assaulted a massage therapist, causing her to leave her profession. The shocking incident unfolded at the Cardiff Crown Court, where the victim bravely shared her ordeal.
During the massage session, Kirk inappropriately touched the therapist by stroking her thigh. The victim, suspecting foul play, discreetly recorded the assault on her phone. Despite the evidence, Kirk vehemently denied the accusations, leading to a trial where he was found guilty of sexual assault. The court was told that Kirk’s actions were deliberate and of a sexual nature, causing immense distress to the therapist.
In a poignant victim personal statement read in court, the therapist expressed the profound impact of the assault on her life and career. She revealed feeling upset, anxious, and vulnerable after the incident, highlighting that she could no longer continue working in an environment where her safety was compromised. Ultimately, Kirk was sentenced to a £1,000 fine, with a warning of imprisonment if the payment is not made within six months. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation to the victim and cover £4,000 in legal costs. The judge’s sentencing underscored the severity of Kirk’s misconduct and the need for accountability in cases of sexual assault.
