During the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Edwards inappropriately touched the 16-year-old and made inappropriate comments. Despite his denial and attempts to downplay the situation, a jury found him guilty.

In a moving victim impact statement, the teenager shared how the incident has left her with anxiety and anger issues, affecting her trust in men and causing her to think twice before socialising. She expressed her fear that Edwards could harm others and described the lasting damage on her mental health.

Although Edwards maintained his innocence, claiming he only teased the teen, the court heard he had little insight into his wrongdoing. The judge acknowledged the lasting impact on the victim, stating that Edwards’ actions would stay with her forever. However, due to specific circumstances, Edwards was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, alongside a 40-day rehabilitation programme and 150 hours of community service. He is also under an indefinite restraining order from contacting the victim.

This heartbreaking case serves as a reminder of the bravery required to speak out and the importance of supporting survivors of sexual assault. Let’s stand together to ensure justice and healing.
