In a case straight out of a crime novel, Jason Powell, an “inveterate conman,” was caught with cloned plates on his BMW in Swansea. 🚗🔍

Powell, who has a record with 15 prior fraud offences, raised eyebrows when he claimed he loved the ‘JP’ prefix on the plates, despite knowing they belonged to another vehicle. The judge, however, wasn’t buying it and suspected a more sinister motive. 🤔

It all began when police in Treboeth checked the registration on Powell’s parked BMW and discovered it belonged to a Land Rover. To make matters worse, the real plate owner had already faced fines due to Powell’s potential misdeeds—talk about an automotive mix-up! 🕵️‍♀️

Defending himself in Swansea Crown Court, the 55-year-old faced charges for fraudulent use of a registration mark, no insurance, and even a Bail Act offence—having skipped court more times than we can count.

The judge handed Powell a 24-month community order, an £500 fine, and eight penalty points. On top of that, he must take part in a rehabilitation course—though the judge remains sceptical about its impact.

What do you think? Can people truly change their ways, or is Powell beyond reform? 🤷‍♂️ Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! 👇
