Popular Cafe Chain Unexpectedly Shuts Its Doors

Sad to see a Swansea gem close its doors! 💔 Ground Plant Based Coffee, a beloved vegan-friendly haven, has officially shut down after four and a half incredible years. Owner Helen Wilson made the tough decision to close right before Christmas, with heartfelt words reflecting the challenges of today’s economic climate.

This little café was more than just a spot for great coffee—it was a community hub where everyone felt at home. Whether you were enjoying a quiet moment with a book or chatting with a friend-of-a-friend (classic Swansea!), Ground welcomed you with warmth and mismatched furniture that made you feel like you belonged.

Helen shared how the rising costs of ingredients, utilities, and operations simply became unsustainable. Despite efforts to adapt and even gaining national press attention, the pressure kept mounting. “The stress has become too much for me, and I need to prioritise my health and well-being,” she said.

Ground was known for its ethics and sustainability. From serving oat milk to avoiding cow’s milk, Helen stayed committed to her values, even if it meant higher costs. But balancing integrity with financial viability became impossible. Each price hike hurt, and the choice to stop selling their famous chocolate chip cookies was heartbreaking.

For Helen, giving up on her dream café wasn’t easy, but she bravely accepted this new chapter. She’s now focusing on her other passion, Womankind Yoga, offering peaceful beach yoga sessions in Swansea.

A huge thank you to the Ground team and its loyal customers. You created a special place that touched many lives. To everyone who visited or supported this business, thank you for making a difference!

While Ground may no longer be serving up vegan delights, its legacy and impact on the community remain. Let’s continue to support our local small businesses and cherish the memories of wonderful places like Ground Plant Based Coffee. 🌱☕✨
