🚮✨ Good news from Carmarthenshire! The council’s bold move to remove 448 bins from certain lay-bys and civic sites has surprised many with its positive results. Instead of more litter, the streets are cleaner and tidier. Councillors are thrilled with the outcome and say the approach is part of creating better-managed public spaces.

Councillor Neil Lewis commented, “Lay-bys are much tidier without bins,” highlighting that some areas actually see less rubbish now. It’s a step towards smarter resource use and tackling issues such as tourist route litter on bank holidays. However, there are still calls for new bins in high-traffic areas like busy retail spots, parks, and near fast-food outlets, with 92 requests made last year alone.

The council’s strategy includes placing bins only where they’re truly needed and ensuring they’re safe from vandalism. No more dedicated dog waste bins either! Councillor Kevin Madge emphasises the importance of not using community bins for household waste and calls on residents to keep public spaces clean. Town councils sometimes get unfair blame for overflowing bins, so it’s a shared responsibility to keep things tidy.
Community efforts are a huge asset; Cllr Madge praises local volunteers, including a resident in his 80s who regularly helps with litter picks. It’s not just beneficial for the environment but great exercise too! 🤸♂️🏞️ Let’s give a shoutout to those going the extra mile to keep Carmarthenshire beautiful!
