Maisie Henderson, a young mum from Gateshead, faced unimaginable torment at the hands of her former partner, Freddy Smith. While pregnant, Maisie was subjected to horrific abuse, including being forced to drink Smith’s blood. In a shocking string of brutal attacks, Smith used weapons like a razor blade, metal pole, and even a sword.
Smith, also known as Campbell, was sentenced to six years in jail after admitting to charges such as wounding with intent and controlling behaviour. Throughout the ordeal, Maisie lived in constant fear for her life and her unborn child.
Despite the terror, Maisie has emerged resilient, now focusing on rebuilding her life. She shares how the experience has changed her perspective on life and the importance of safety and peace: “I live a boring life now. Everything is just about keeping us safe.”
Maisie has returned to college to study nursing and midwifery and is working on regaining her trust in people. She reflects on her journey with strength: “I have got my two kids, and I have got all my friends and family back.”
Freddy Smith’s incarceration brings some relief, but Maisie’s road to recovery continues as she bravely moves forward, offering hope and inspiration to others who may be enduring similar situations.
