🚨 Shocking Prison Blunders! 🚨 Over the past week, five prisoners have been wrongly released from UK jails, according to a union leader. This revelation comes hot on the heels of the mistaken release of Hadush Kebatu, a sex offender who was let out from HMP Chelmsford instead of being transferred to an immigration centre.

Kebatu, who had previously been staying in Essex and had committed serious offences, was caught in London after a two-day search. Now, a major investigation is underway, with a prison officer temporarily suspended during the inquiry.

Mark Fairhurst, chair of the Prison Officers’ Association, highlighted that these mistaken releases have become alarmingly frequent. He revealed that in just a week, wrongful releases occurred in prisons across the nation, including two from HMP Pentonville and others from HMP Durham, The Mount, and Reading Crown Court.
Fairhurst suggests these issues stem from poor staff training, confusion from early release schemes, and errors in paperwork processing. According to government data, such blunders have skyrocketed, seeing an increase of 128% in the past year.
In response to Kebatu’s accidental freedom, stronger release checks are set to be implemented immediately. However, Fairhurst emphasizes that staff should not be scapegoated, advocating for fair treatment of the suspended officer.
