🎓 An Unexpected Journey: Richard’s Story 💡
Meet Richard West, a beloved uni lecturer who faced a life-changing discovery. After returning to his passion for teaching post-lockdown, Richard sensed something was off. Suddenly, the usual enthusiastic educator turned forgetful and short-tempered. Even cherished memories with his partner of 12 years, Tina, faded away.
Initially dismissed as ‘lockdown depression’, Richard’s persistent struggles led to a shocking diagnosis: a meningioma, a type of brain tumour. An MRI at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in High Wycombe showed the truth, prompting emergency surgery at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. His life turned upside down as doctors revealed the tumour’s proximity to vital centres meant it couldn’t be completely removed.
Despite this twist, Richard’s resilience is inspiring. After surviving prostate cancer in 2020, enduring a stroke, and now dealing with a brain tumour, Richard truly believes in the power of awareness and research. “I shouldn’t be alive, but here I am,” he boldly states. His new mission? To amplify the conversation around brain tumours and push for more research funding.
In January 2026, Richard hopes to channel his newfound perspective into action through a music event, raising funds for Brain Tumour Research. His story is a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of coming together for a cause.
