Exciting Changes Coming to Newport!

The old Open Hearth pub site in Ringland, Newport, notorious for fires and fly-tippers, is finally getting a makeover! A planning application has been submitted to transform this eyesore into a vibrant community of 32 affordable homes. Imagine swapping abandoned rubble for modern apartments and houses, complete with a car park and gardens!
The proposal, led by Hedyn—a branch of Melin Homes—includes 19 one-bedroom flats, seven two-bedroom flats, and six two-bedroom houses. The development reflects a commitment to sustainability with low carbon, energy-efficient designs, aligning with Welsh Government policies. Each bedroom is planned to have a dedicated parking space, aiming to tackle existing parking woes in the area.

Opinions are mixed, though. While some residents, like Lois Jade and Sadie Williams, express concerns about space and parking, others like Maria Fletcher and Adam Kelly are excited to see the derelict site put to good use.
Local voices matter—feedback is welcome as the consultation is already underway. Here’s your chance to shape Newport’s future! What do you think about the proposed homes? Share your thoughts below and let’s get talking!
