A dramatic scene unfolded in Cardiff city centre as a woman was arrested during a protest today! Around 100 passionate individuals gathered outside the UK Government buildings to make their voices heard over the UK Government’s involvement in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
The protest started peacefully, but tensions rose when a group of about ten South Wales Police officers formed a barricade around one protestor. The crowd quickly began chanting “let her go,” creating a tense atmosphere. The woman was eventually taken into custody, and police have confirmed her arrest, but she remains in custody.
Protestor Hannah shared her thoughts on the ongoing protests: “We’ve been gathering in Cardiff every Saturday since October 2023. Our goal today is to stand against the forced starvation in Palestine and our government’s role in this situation.”
Hussein, from Black Lives Matter Cardiff and Vale, echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the peaceful nature of the protest and the importance of holding governments accountable for their actions. He stated, “We are here to stop the genocide and show our solidarity with Palestine.”
South Wales Police have reiterated their support for the right to protest, provided it’s done lawfully. Today, most attendees were able to protest safely and peacefully.
