An emergency airlift was carried out on Anglesey earlier today after a man sustained a broken arm on a popular local beach. A swift response from multiple emergency agencies, including the Wales Air Ambulance, the coastguard, the RNLI, and North Wales Police, ensured the injured individual received the urgent care he required.

The incident unfolded at Porth yr Ogof beach, near the village of Cemaes Bay on the north coast of Anglesey. At approximately 1:50pm, the Cemaes Bay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team was alerted to the matter. Initial reports indicated that a 30-year-old man had suffered a significant arm injury while at the seaside. Members of the public were first on the scene and provided assistance before paramedics arrived.

Not long after the initial call for help, paramedics reached the beach to attend to the casualty. The seriousness of the injury soon became clear, prompting the involvement of further emergency services. Moelfre RNLI lifeboat crew joined the efforts, supporting the ambulance and coastguard teams on the rugged shoreline.
North Wales Police officers were also called to the scene to help manage the response and ensure the safety of all present during the rescue operation. The area quickly became the focus of a concerted multi-agency effort, illustrating the importance of coordinated emergency responses in coastal environments.
A Wales Air Ambulance helicopter landed directly on the sand at Porth yr Ogof, attracting attention from beachgoers and passers-by. After stabilising the injured man—with interventions from both paramedics and volunteers—the casualty was carefully prepared for transport. He was then airlifted from the beach, ensuring he could reach specialist medical care in the shortest possible time.
The Coastguard later issued a statement, confirming, “Tasked at 13:50 to assist a 30-year-old male with a broken arm. On arriving on scene the casualty was being treated by paramedics and members of the public. Also in attendance were North Wales Police and RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat. Once the casualty was stable, he was extricated by the Welsh Air Ambulance. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”
This incident highlights both the unpredictability of accidents at the coast and the readiness of emergency services to respond under pressure. As the summer season approaches and beaches grow busier, agencies are reminding the public to remain vigilant and to call 999 and ask for the coastguard if they witness anyone in distress on the shore or at sea.
The rapid deployment of assets from several emergency services, as demonstrated in today’s rescue, is a reassurance to locals and holidaymakers alike. These collaborative responses underscore the vital roles played by dedicated search and rescue volunteers, as well as professional medical and law enforcement teams.
While the injured man recovers in hospital, authorities have credited the quick-thinking members of the public who first came to his aid. Such incidents serve as a reminder of the value of community spirit and the importance of basic first aid knowledge, especially in remote or challenging locations.
As of this evening, the rescued man remains under medical supervision. There have been no reports suggesting his injuries are life-threatening. The Cemaes Bay Coastguard expressed gratitude for the seamless cooperation between the agencies and reiterated their call for public awareness, urging beach users to prioritise safety during their visits to the Welsh coastline.
