In a surprising turn of events, a plan to build a new house in a garden has stirred up quite a bit of drama in a quaint Welsh village! The green light has been given to a three-bedroom house at Berthon Road, Little Mill, Monmouthshire, despite 16 residents raising alarms, including the local community council.

Concerns have been swirling around parking and highway safety, with the new home’s access set to impact Brynhyfryd Close. The Llanbadoc Community Council and locals feared it might lead to an “overdevelopment of a small site.”

Councillor Tony Kear backed the concerns, highlighting villagers already needing to use the nearby hall car park. Plus, residents have seen vehicles mounting the kerb on their street, leading to some nail-biting ‘near-miss’ stories.
However, there’s a twist! Proposed changes, including a hedge trim to create two visitor parking spaces, satisfied planning officers. They assured everyone that both the existing and new properties will have proper off-street parking, solving previous safety concerns.
After some back and forth, the county council gave the thumbs up with a 10-strong majority in favour. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster for the neighbourhood, and we’re all eager to see how it unfolds.
