Alex Hounsell, a local resident, described the shocking event: “I heard a huge crash; it sounded like a car crash followed by screaming and what I thought were fireworks. I stepped outside only to witness a pylon sparking up and tiny explosions going off. It was surreal!”

Complications arose as a wire detached, hanging dangerously over a nearby garden, trapping some residents inside their homes. University of South Wales students were among those left stranded, unable to return to their halls due to the fire being right across from the entrance.

Thanks to the swift response of the local fire brigade, who were only feet away, the blaze was quickly controlled. They extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet and thermal imaging equipment. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Local heroes? Absolutely! Hats off to the emergency services for their rapid intervention and efforts to ensure everyone’s safety.
