Drone footage has unveiled troubling scenes at a travellers’ site in Llansamlet, and local residents are fed up. Reports of rubbish burning at the Mill Stream Way site have sparked outrage and demands for urgent intervention. Concerns have resurfaced, despite a government grant exceeding £116,000 last year for site improvements like upgraded toilets and new perimeter fencing.

Residents are blowing up social media, sharing images and expressing their frustration. One resident warned on a community group about the “plumes” rising from the area, accusing the council of allowing these environmental hazards. The post urged fellow citizens to demand action against being “poisoned” by the constant waste burning, with pollution already impacting Llansamlet and Morriston. Others chimed in, noting the horrid smell of burning plastic accompanying the visibly blackened trees surrounding the site.

Swansea Council has acknowledged the ongoing issue, stating, “Investigations are ongoing.” Officials are reportedly working alongside police, fire services, and Natural Resources Wales to address community concerns and the potential illegal activities suggested.
This isn’t the first time this site has raised eyebrows. Back in 2017, neighbouring woods fell victim to similar rubbish fires. The community remains vigilant, raising awareness about the daily hazards they believe are compromising air quality and, ultimately, their health. Striving for a swift resolution, they insist more needs to be done to protect everyone’s well-being.
As drones capture the extent of neglect, with waste scattered across the site and remnants of trash fires in plain sight, residents are pressing for a sustainable solution. What do you think should be done to tackle this issue? Share your thoughts below!
