Exciting plans are in the works to transform a tired-looking city centre block in Swansea, currently home to McDonald’s and Taco Bell! If the proposed changes get the green light, we could soon see 29 modern one and two-bedroom flats sprouting up, alongside a slick new commercial unit. The design includes a five-storey extension on one end and a new upper floor that’ll breathe life into the corner of Oxford Street and Princess Way.

McDonald’s won’t be moving out, just scaling back to the ground floor, while Taco Bell is set to stay put. The building facelift will make use of eco-friendly air source heat pumps, rooftop solar panels, and even a green roof. To boost security and safety, the site will dazzle with well-placed lighting, CCTV, and enhanced entry systems.

Behind this ambitious project is Kartay Holdings Ltd, marking it as the fourth major development in the area. They’re expecting to kick off construction once the council’s work on revamping Castle Square is far enough along to avoid too much public hassle. Castle Square itself promises a fresh, green central hub with pavilions for food, drinks, and retail.
Locals seem optimistic. Shopper Stephen Davies thinks it’s a solid move, noting “otherwise it’s going to waste.” Dawning hopes are for the flats to benefit Swansea residents. There’s a buzz in the air with more exciting plans like the transformation of the former Castle Cinema into additional flats and commercial spaces. It’s an exciting time to watch Swansea get a vibrant, new look!
