Exciting news for learner drivers! 🚗 From early next year, the driving theory test will include questions on CPR and defibrillators. This initiative by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency aims to equip drivers with essential life-saving skills. With over 40,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happening in the UK each year, knowing what to do could be crucial.

If CPR is started and a defibrillator is used within 3 to 5 minutes, survival rates can jump to a stunning 70%! Yet currently, fewer than 1 in 10 survive such events. That’s why understanding and being ready to use these skills is key.

DVSA’s chief driving examiner, Mark Winn, believes that knowing how to act in emergencies is part of being a responsible driver. Professor Len Nokes, whose daughter tragically died from cardiac arrest, champions this change, hoping it will spare other families from similar heartache.
James Cant from Resuscitation Council UK adds that embedding these skills into such a widely-taken test will help people everywhere feel confident to step up in a crisis.
