TV presenter Richard Hammond is staying upbeat despite a seriously challenging year. At 55, he’s facing some major life changes, including the loss of his beloved father to cancer and the end of his 23-year marriage. On top of that, his car business took a hit with a staggering half a million pounds loss.

In a chat with The Daily Mail, Richard shared his approach to life’s hurdles: “Things change, especially at this age. It’s not about what happens to you, but how you react. It’s your reaction that defines it.” He even recalls his 2006 crash and recovery, highlighting how a positive mindset made the difference. “Whatever happens to us, we can decide,” he asserts.

Richard dives into the breakdown of his marriage in his new series, Richard Hammond’s Workshop. Moving closer to his garage setup, he tries to find the bright side, despite the ups and downs: “I’m trying to put a silver lining on this. It’s been a tough few years, but it’s not all bad.”
As for dating? He’s got other priorities for now. “I don’t know. I haven’t got time. Right now I’m coming to the end of a series and then… that will be for me to think about,” he comments.
His series tracks the journey of The Smallest Cog, a garage he started five years ago for classic car repairs. The journey hasn’t been smooth; Richard admits, “We’ve been through the mill. It’s not an easy time for luxury car restoration.”
Despite financial setbacks and selling cherished vehicles like a Lotus Esprit 350 Sport and a Bentley S2, Richard’s resilience shines through. Each week may bring doubts, but his determination to stay positive never wavers. Here’s to hoping brighter days are ahead!
