Footballer extraordinaire David Beckham has officially joined the ranks of legendary knights. Earlier this month, King Charles bestowed the former Manchester United star with a knighthood, and the football world couldn’t be prouder!
Ex-Red Devils teammate, Rio Ferdinand, didn’t hold back his admiration for Beckham, saying he’s thoroughly deserving of this prestigious honour. Ferdinand praised Beckham, not just for his legendary career on the pitch but also for his remarkable work off of it.
Starting his journey in Manchester United’s famed Class of ’92, Beckham clinched an impressive six Premier League titles and two FA Cups. He later dazzled at Real Madrid among the star-studded Galacticos. Besides being awarded an OBE in 2003, he played a significant role in London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics. Yet, it wasn’t until now that his immense contributions to sport and charity were recognised with a knighthood.
Ferdinand, in his chat with LBC Radio, was candid about Beckham’s hard work and iconic status: “If there’s anyone who deserves it, look no further than Beckham. He’s the ultimate icon both on and off the field, inspiring millions. When you see some honours, you wonder why they got it. Not this time – Beckham embodies what a knight should be!”
