As they exited, a bit of verbal sparring ensued, prompted by James’ Welsh accent, which caught Rees-Zammit off guard. “I didn’t know he was Welsh until I heard him!” he admitted when quizzed about the incident on The Rugby Pod.
Aside from the on-field skirmish, Rees-Zammit had a mix of triumph and blunder as his return to face Gloucester saw him drop the ball embarrassingly close to the try line. “That was really embarrassing,” he confessed, adding that the boos from The Shed were all part of the game’s thrill.
Despite the setbacks, he seemed to enjoy the intensity of facing his former club again. “There were a lot of boos, but it just felt really good,” said Rees-Zammit, who has been adjusting after an 18-month break from rugby action.
