This summer, IKEA is offering an appetising proposition for visitors to its stores, with a host of popular meals on offer for half their usual price. Diners can now enjoy the Swedish retailer’s signature dishes for as little as 45p, in what promises to be a welcome bonus for savvy shoppers seeking refreshment during their furniture-hunting expeditions.

The move comes as part of a limited-time initiative running across IKEA branches throughout the UK, including the Cardiff store, which has seen enthusiastic uptake by regular and new customers alike. While the Swedish furniture giant has long been famous for its affordable flat-pack furnishings and clever Scandinavian designs, its food offering—particularly the iconic meatballs—has equally become a staple of the IKEA in-store experience.

For many, no trip to IKEA is complete without pausing for a meal at the store’s Swedish Restaurant, Bistro, Café, or Food Market. Now, members of the IKEA Family loyalty scheme are being treated to a significant reduction, with 50% off a range of main meals as well as kids’ food options. The company’s latest offer is seen as both a celebration of summer and an acknowledgment of the ongoing cost-of-living pressures facing many households.

However, to take advantage of this generous saving, customers must be signed up as ‘IKEA Family Members’. Membership is free and easily obtained via the IKEA website, unlocking not only this summer’s meal discounts but also various other perks and exclusive deals throughout the year. The food promotion officially launched on Thursday, 5 June and will remain in effect until Friday, 29 August. During this period, qualifying customers can purchase discounted meals from 11am until store closing time, Monday through Friday.

Among the dishes included in the offer are some of IKEA’s best-loved classics. The much-lauded 8-piece meatball meal is now £2.75, down from its usual £5.50, while the larger 12-piece serving drops to £3.35 from £6.75. Fish and chips—a favourite for many—can be enjoyed for £3 (previously £6.95). Other options such as sausage and mash, veggie sausage and mash, and the salmon fillet are all available for under £3.50, offering both variety and value.

Vegetarians are also catered for, with meals like pasta and tomato sauce (£1.45, down from £2.95) and a rice mix with vegetables (£1.25, instead of £2.50) included in the offer. The mushroom, cheddar and garlic tart has seen its price halved to £3.25. Meanwhile, children’s meal options provide even more substantial savings, with children’s pasta available for just 45p—a significant reduction from its original 95p. Other children’s menu choices, such as meatballs, plant balls, and sausage & mash, can be bought for £1.25 or less.

In recent years, IKEA has made concerted efforts to enhance its family-friendly appeal, not just with affordable homewares but also through accessible dining options. The company highlights that becoming an IKEA Family Member is straightforward, with sign-up available online, and that membership brings with it year-round rewards.

Industry observers suggest that such initiatives could drive footfall to IKEA stores during the summer months, at a time when many shoppers are conscious of budget constraints. By halving the prices of meals, IKEA is positioning itself as not just a home improvement destination but also a go-to spot for family-friendly dining.

With this limited-time promotion, IKEA continues its tradition of combining comfort, affordability, and a taste of Sweden for the British public. As summer unfolds, both returning customers and curious newcomers may find yet another reason to browse the showroom—and linger a little longer in the restaurant.
