🌟 Barry Island’s Infamous Burglar Caught! 🌟

Meet Iain Thompson, 52, our “career burglar” who embarked on a spree, targeting beloved local spots in Barry Island and Penarth. He left his mark on sports clubs, coffee shops, and kiosks, fuelling his antics with a longstanding drug habit.

👀 Cameras caught Thompson prowling Penarth Tennis Club decked out in a balaclava, sneaking through a fire door—though this time, he left empty-handed. But just a few days later, on September 1st, he ramped up the drama.
🤑 At Gingerlicious on Barry Island, he prised open shutters, grabbing a stash totalling £205 from the cash tray and money bag. Not stopping there, within the same day, Thompson hit up more spots like the Joy of Gingerlicious. Shattered glass scattered, he made off with £400.
☕️ The Bay 5 coffee shop was next; he nabbed a till with £30 and even an ice cream tub stashing £800! This hit proved too much for the shop, which shuttered its doors soon after.
🚪 His final act was at Barry Athletic Club, where patience paid off after a 90-minute wait. A crowbar and some damaged panels later, he cracked open a safe with £300 inside.
In total, Thompson pocketed £1,375, adding to his staggering 79 offences in the books—54 of which are thefts! Caught and ready to face the consequences, he admitted to all five break-ins. His remorse? Recognising the need to “break the cycle” of his addiction.
The verdict? A hefty 28 months behind bars! A stark reminder that crime doesn’t pay. Stay safe and always keep an eye out for your neighbourhood businesses! 💪✨ #JusticeServed #LocalNews #BarryIslandBurglar
