A mum’s worst nightmare unfolded when she went to pick up her two-year-old from nursery and was told he hadn’t been seen for an hour. After a frantic search, she found her son curled up, cold, and motionless in a grit bin. “I thought he was dead,” she recounted, describing the terrifying moment. The little boy, disoriented and shivering, was rushed to A&E with raised salt levels but thankfully released after tests.

This shocking incident happened at Maybury Primary School in Edinburgh, where the mum said her child was supposed to be under tag-team supervision. Disturbingly, there are still no clear answers on how he ended up in the grit bin or why no one noticed his absence. The nursery’s CCTV didn’t capture the area, and it apparently wasn’t working that day – leaving the heartbroken parent without any explanation.

Since the incident, trust has shattered, and the mum has decided to keep her son at home. The Care Inspectorate has been alerted, and Edinburgh Council leader Jane Meagher expressed deep concern, calling the event “simply unacceptable” and ensuring urgent actions are taken to prevent this from ever happening again.
