🏡📚 Home-schooling Surge in Powys! 📈

There’s been a significant increase in the number of children being educated at home in Powys. Pre-pandemic, about 154 kids were home-schooled in the area; now, that number has skyrocketed to 409! 🏠✨

This trend gained attention during a local council discussion following a positive report on children’s services improvements. While there are mixed feelings about home-schooling, the focus has shifted to whether support systems are in place for these families.
Stephen Walker, a social services director, pointed out challenges linked to the rise in home education. He mentioned potential issues in accessing and supporting children educated at home, noting that some parents might choose this route due to behavioural difficulties at school. It seems some believe schooling them at home is a better alternative to exclusions, which would be officially recorded. 🤔
However, concerns remain about the social impact on young ones missing out on school interactions. Councillor Amanda Jenner emphasised that this is a vital topic to explore further, especially with lower post-Covid school attendance. 📉
