In a truly terrifying ordeal, a woman in Cardiff faced every person’s nightmare when an intruder broke into her home. Late that January night, Thamer Alrabie, 36, from Leckwith, threatened the woman with a knife and proceeded to carry out a vile assault. However, the situation took a vital turn when the woman’s father heard the commotion and courageously stepped in, fighting off the intruder and potentially saving her life.
Alrabie, identified and apprehended by South Wales Police within 24 hours, later admitted to charges including trespassing to commit a sexual offense, sexual assault, assault by beating, and threatening with a bladed article. At Cardiff Crown Court, he was sentenced to nine years and two months in prison.
Reflecting on the ordeal, the strong and resilient victim declared, “I am a survivor.” She refuses to let that horrific night define her, embracing her journey to recovery with immense courage.
Detective Constable Luke Rimes praised the resolution, noting that such stranger attacks are extremely rare in south Wales. “Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home,” he emphasised, acknowledging the victim’s incredible bravery in pursuing justice.
