๐จ **Damp Homes Crisis: A Real Threat to Health!** ๐จ

A shocking new study reveals that over a quarter of UK adults are living in homes plagued by damp, mould, or freezing temperatures. The findings highlight a severe issue, especially affecting low-income families, who are nearly twice as likely to live in such conditions. In fact, these families are four times more likely to struggle with cold homes.

Property expert Martin Roberts and housing campaigner Kwajo Tweneboa are calling for urgent government action. They insist everyone deserves a warm, dry place to call home. Roberts emphasises that “good housing is the foundation for good health.”
In a creative push to raise awareness, a campaign set up a pop-up in Soho featuring ‘Hazmat Loungewear’โa quirky nod to how serious the situation is. This campaign doesn’t stop at raising awareness; it demands real change. It calls for stronger laws, proper funding for repairs, and a comprehensive government plan to close the health gap.
Living in such poor conditions has dire consequences. Nearly half of those affected live with children, and many share homes with people who have health conditions like asthma. Dampness and mould can exacerbate these conditions, leading to more severe health issues.
The study also shows massive public support for stricter regulations. A whopping 53% of people believe it’s the responsibility of landlords to maintain rental properties, and an impressive 76% want government intervention to tackle these health inequalities.
Dr Andy Whittamore from Asthma + Lung UK states that living in such environments can trigger life-threatening conditions. He stresses the urgent need for action to ensure everyone can live safely.
It’s time to demand change for the millions whose health is undermined by their living conditions. Let’s work towards safe and healthy homes for everyone! ๐กโจ
