A new study reveals what truly makes Brits break into smiles, and it’s simpler than you might think! Who would have guessed a bunch of your favourite flowers tops the list? Indeed, the little things in life hold the most power.

Across the UK, folks typically smile about 14 times a day. Yorkshire and the Humber are on the lower end with just 11 smiles, while the West Midlands lead with 17 daily grins! Even with these regional quirks, everyone’s ready to share a smile when the moment is right.
What gets us grinning? Well, good news, a cheeky joke, or something funny to read never fails. When spreading smiles to others, we Brits rely on a kind grin or a heartfelt compliment.

A comforting TV show or a blast of our favourite tunes lifts 45% of spirits, while 41% of us head outdoors to soak up some nature. And let’s not forget the cuddles from our furry friends that brighten the day for 24% of us!
Monique Kemperman from Plants & Flowers Foundation Holland, who commissioned the study, says it’s heartwarming to see how simple joys can light up our days. Staying positive, even when skies look grey, is key. Funny messages, fond memories, or a bouquet of our favourite blooms might just do the trick.

So, what other delightful surprises make the top ten list? Here they are:
1. A surprise delivery of your favourite pastry
2. An emergency chocolate stop
3. A little bag of sweets
4. A surprise hot drink on your desk
5. A playlist crafted just for you
6. A homemade biscuit wrapped in a napkin
7. A postcard from somewhere unexpected
8. A little note of niceness in your lunchbox
9. A silly photo slipped into your notebook
It’s clear that a bit of thoughtfulness goes a long way in brightening up someone’s day. Let’s spread those smiles! 😊
